Earlier tonight the New York Rangers kicked off what has now become a flurry of trades by sending Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken.
Now the St. Louis Blues have announced a trade where they will send defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph to the Pittsburgh Penguins according to Elliotte Friedman.
The trade will reportedly send Joseph to Pittsburgh for future considerations.
Pierre-Olivier Joseph will head to a familiar situation going to the Pittsburgh Penguins where he spent several seasons.
While this is a big move it is likely a sad day for the Joseph family as Pierre-Olivier and his brother Mathieu will be separated after playing together for the first time in their pro careers this season.
It seems like this is a trade centered around allowing Joseph to play more minutes in a familiar organization after he struggled to find ice time with the St. Louis Blues this season.
For Joseph, this move is likely a welcomed one from a hockey perspective as he was struggling to get in the lineup in St. Louis and now will head to Pittsburgh who are in desperate need of defensive depth.
He will now step in under head coach Mike Sullivan after spending the first 5 seasons of his pro career with the Penguins organization.
It will be interesting to see if a reunion with a familiar organization will lead to a season turnaround for Joseph or if he will continue to struggle cracking the lineup with the Pittsburgh Penguins as well.
