The Pittsburgh Penguins season has been a rollercoaster ride thus far, as they've gotten somewhat younger, with General Manager Kyle Dubas now ready for a fire sale according to recent reports.
Now, a comment from Elliotte Friedman's latest 32 Thoughts article has revealed that the Penguins extensive scouting of the Buffalo Sabres have led them to interest in many of their younger prospects that Kyle Dubas and the Penguins deem as NHL ready.
For the Sabres, there's plenty of young talent in their farm system, but with the team still looking to see what they've got at the NHL level with some of their players under 24-years of age, there may not be room for plenty of those players as of yet.
That could be perfect for teams like Pittsburgh, who acquired Rutger McGroarty this past summer, as they could move one of their veterans in a return for an NHL ready prospects.
As of right now, the Sabres top prospects include the likes of Konstas Helenius, Devon Levi, Jack Quinn, Jiri Kulich and Noah Ostlund, and while they may be off the table at this point, there's still plenty of talent out there.
Ultimately, the Penguins need to decide on which direction they'll be taking, and if they have any veterans that would interest the Sabres, it makes perfect sense that these two could come together and get a deal done.
