Vegas Golden Knights Complete a Roster Transaction for Two Forwards Amid Karlsson Injury
The Vegas Golden Knights have called up two top prospects in the wake of William Karlsson's injury.
The Golden Knights announced this morning that veteran forward and original misfit William Karlsson has gone on injured reserve and is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.
This is terrible news for the 32-year-old center as the timing could not be much worse.
Karlsson was set to represent Sweden at the upcoming Four-Nations tournament next month, but as NHL insider Elliotte Friedman points out, this injury puts his participation in that event in jeopardy.
Karlsson has not quite been himself this season posting just 7 goals and 18 points in 38 games.
He has already missed time due to injury, and it seems like this might be the same injury that is forcing him out of the lineup today.
With Karlsson going on IR though, that opens up both a roster spot and cap space for the Knights to play with.
In response, the team called up forward prospects Tanner Laczynski and Brendan Brisson.
Laczynski has some limited NHL experience including six games with the Knights this season.
He is exactly a point-per-game in the AHL with 25 points in 25 games for the Henderson Silver Knights.
Brisson on the other hand has just 14 points in 31 games with Henderson. He has zero points in 7 games with the Knights this year.
Brisson was selected in the first round, 29th overall by the Knights in 2020.
He remains the only player drafted in the first round by the team to have made an appearance in the NHL with the Knights.
That being said, the 23-year-old has not lived up to expectations so far and this could be one of his last chances to prove to the team that he belongs in the NHL.
