Reilly Smith has had a turbulent 13-year career in the NHL so far. Following a Stanley Cup-winning performance in the 2022-23 season with the Vegas Golden Knights, the veteran forward was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 3rd-round pick in the upcoming draft.
Now, after just one year with the team, it seems Pittsburgh is having trouble keeping Smith on the roster. The left-wing has iterated that he would prefer a trade, and though he could not get buyers at the deadline, he is being looked at by his former home with the Golden Knights, as well as by the Colorado Avalanche and Utah HC.
Despite no early buyers, Reilly Smith could just have opened more doors out of the Penguins for himself. Going into the last year of his current contract, the Pittsburgh forward changed his agency and is now represented by CAA Hockey.
No trade involving the Penguins forward has been confirmed. However, now under new representation, Reilly Smith could be on his way out of Pittsburgh for good.
