The Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly interested in signing Canucks forward Brock Boeser in free agency this summer.

Scott Powers and Mark Lazerus of the Athletic put out an article about the Chicago Blackhawks today, outlining what the team could be poised to do this summer.

The team has been rather disappointing this year, spending the entire season at or near the bottom of the standings.

Currently, they sit in 31st place, only ahead of the San Jose Sharks.

Both writers point out that the Blackhawks need to get better and fast, including many options for the organization in free agency.

Among the options they list is Canucks winger Brock Boeser.

"Rantanen and Mitch Marner are very much on Davidson's radar. Failing that, there's possibly Nikolaj Ehlers, Brock Boeser and Brock Nelson. Brad Marchand and John Tavares don't fit the timeline very well, but Davidson might be feeling some heat for the first time, and anything could be on the table.

Because simply put, eight years removed from their last real playoff appearance and a decade removed from their last playoff series victory - the 2015 Stanley Cup Final - the Blackhawks need to be better."

NHL insider Can Robinson has reported that the Canucks are expected to make Boeser available on the trade market this March.

While the Blackhawks surely won't have much interest in trading for Boeser, this does obviously indicate that the Canucks are not looking to re-sign him either.

As such, Boeser will likely be moved at the deadline, but players that are traded rarely re-sign with their new clubs.

"Sources indicate that many teams expect Brock Boeser to be available at the deadline barring a serious Canucks turnaround. If he does stay through this season, he'll likely be available on July 1, and a healthy group will be vying for his services on a long-term deal-something the Canucks appear wary of doing at this time."

Boeser has 16 goals and 33 points in 43 games this season. In 522 career NHL contests he has 195 goals and 222 assists for 417 points.

He would certainly make the Blackhawks top line a lot more dangerous playing alongside Connor Bedard.
