Mika Zibanejad Trade Fate to the Canucks Revealed by Insider Nick Kypreos
NHL insider Nick Kypreos revealed today that Mika Zibanejad has rejected a possible trade to the Vancouver Canucks.
The New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks have reportedly had many trade discussions so far this season.
One rumor is that the Rangers are interested in trading for JT Miller, who has been a mainstay in trade rumors this season.
It is not clear if the Canucks were hoping to get Zibanejad in return for Miller, but the team certainly had interest in him according to multiple sources.
Unfortunately for the Canucks, Zibanejad has a full no-move clause, and he has already reportedly used it to deny a trade to Vancouver.
To be fair to Zibanejad, he has been playing better lately.
In fact, one might argue that he's been playing like someone who does not want to be traded.
With a primary assist on a Artemi Panarin goal tonight, the Swedish forward extended his point streak to five games. He has 2 goals and 3 assists in that span.
Overall though, Zibanejad has not lived up to expectations this season.
Even with the assist tonight, he has just 26 points through 41 games.
That scoring rate is not inherently terrible, but it does not help that he has just 8 goals and he is making 8 million dollars a season.
The Rangers are relying on him to be much closer to a point-per-game player than he has been so far in 2024-25.
That being said, the Rangers seem to be going into a retool on the fly this season, and as such Zibanejad could be more useful as a trade asset than as an actual roster player.
Unless the Rangers can turn things around quickly, more players will almost certainly be moved. We will just have to see if Zibanejad is one of them or not.
