The Montreal Canadiens have a huge decision to make on Jake Evans, but according to analyst Pierre McGuire, it should be a very easy negotiation.

2024/25 has been a career year for Jake Evans thus far, and now, the Montreal Canadiens forward is up for a massive extension with free agency looming in the off-season.

There's been plenty of talk about whether or not the team should trade or extend him, but now, analyst Pierre McGuire has made the discussion around Evans relatively simple.

"I'd probably pay him between $2.75 and $3.75 million a year and I'd give him 6 to 7 years ... It's not a hard negotiation"

That's a very simplified version of how negotiations will go, but on paper, that's about what Evans will be worth on the open market as a 4C who has never topped 30 points in his career.

While Evans is having a career year, that involves just 25 points in 47 games played, and if that is who he can be, this would be a great contract for both the player and the team, as it locks in your 4C for 6 or 7 years to come at a relatively fair cap hit for both parties.

However, there's a lot more that goes into it than that, as Evans may be looking at a shorter term deal for a bigger AAV if he can reach 45-50 points this season, but at 28-years of age already, it's likely that he tops out as a 40 point player in the NHL, which is still a fairly solid place to be.

Ultimately, this should be a no-brainer for General Manager Kent Hughes and the organization, and if Evans wants to be a Canadien for the remainder of his career, this could be a deal that we see locked in at some point during the 2024/25 campaign.
