Analyst Grant McCagg has proposed a deal that would send top forward Patrik Laine of the Blue Jackets to the Montreal Canadiens.

There is talk on the sick podcast hosted by Tony Marinaro and Grant McCagg about former second overall pick Patrik Laine joining the Canadiens and maybe becoming general manager Kent Hughes' "Kirby Dach" for the upcoming season.

The following was the suggestion:

Trade Proposal

Patrik Laine is given to the Canadiens

The 2024 first round selection (WPG) and one of Jayden Struble or Jordan Harris are given to the Blue Jackets.

What could be a fair trade for Patrik Laine?

@grantmccagg
: "If Struble or Harris wasn't enticing enough along with a first round pick, the next logical step would be Mailloux. I'd consider that"

Additionally, McCagg mentioned that Logan Mailloux might be involved in the trade even if the Blue Jackets aren't sold on Harris or Struble, and the Canadiens would still gain from the agreement.

Patrik Laine had a forgettable year due to injuries and mental health concerns, but he appears to be returning to form as the 202425 NHL season approaches. He was originally selected second overall for a reason: the talent is there.
