Top Penguins Forward on the Trade Block According to Sports Illustrated

After a tough start to the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins appear poised to make a move on the trade market. They already traded Eller to the Washington Capitals, and it doesn't look like Kyle Dubas is done making deals.

Despite Evgeni Malkin publicly expressing his wish to remain with the Penguins for the rest of his career, multiple sources confirmed that all players would be available in Pittsburgh except Sidney Crosby.

Sports Illustrated recently shed light on who could be traded out of Pittsburgh in a new report.

The writer Nick Horwat revealed that Rickard Rakell could end up with another team before the trade deadline, on March 7th, 2025.

According to him, Rakell's skills could generate a lot of interest from around the NHL, but the three years at $5 million remaining on his contract make Dubas' job to trade the 34-year-old forward much harder.

However, the forward has been having a great year, with 11 points, including six goals, in 20 games with the Penguins. He's currently tied with Erik Karlsson at the third rank among Pens scorers, under Malkin and Crosby, who each have 19 points.

Drafted 30th overall in 2011 by the Anaheim Ducks, the Swedish player took part in 741 regular season games in the NHL, and 48 in the playoffs. He tallied 207 goals and 253 assists in 13 pro seasons and added 19 playoff points.

It'll be interesting to see what Kyle Dubas decides to do next. The Penguins still have time to turn their season around, and if players take things into their own hands, it would allow Dubas to avoid rebuilding the whole organization.
