The Vancouver Canucks have a great shot at the Stanley Cup once more in 2024/25, and now they may have identified Mackenzie Weegar as a huge piece of that as they reportedly target the 30-year old as a trade target.

After falling just one game short of the Western Conference Finals a year ago, the belief is high within the Vancouver Canucks organization that they can take it a step or two further this season.
However, they've certainly got some weaknesses that may hold them back from doing that, and now a top Insider has revealed that they could target a division rival to help that cause.
'Rasmus Andresson is one such player.
So is his teammate Mackenzie Weegar.

Weegar is the kind of player you trade for because your window is now. The Canucks window, let's be clear, is now.' Johnston said.

Despite reports that the team could instead be looking at Marcus Pettersson of the Pittsburgh Penguins, it appears as though Johnston believes they should be aiming much higher, with two stars in Calgary potentially available for trade.
Last season was a career best one for Weegar, who tallied 52 points on a struggling Calgary Flames team, and after another fantastic start to the season on both ends of the ice, he would be an incredible target.
Fans have also been among those identifying Weegar as the top target for the Canucks, and given that he's locked in for a long time, he could be a huge piece of their team for years to come.
Ultimately though, it's unclear if the Flames would trade him to a division rival for so long, or if they would trade him at all, but if Vancouver could somehow get him, it would be the pickup of the season.
