The Edmonton Oilers need some help on their blue line, and now according to analysts, this could result in the return of Cody Ceci.
While the Edmonton Oilers sit at 9-7-1 early in the 2024/25 season, there have been many question raised over the team thus far, and with struggles in net, it's safe to say that some changes need to be made if they wish to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Offensively this team still has work to do, but it's the right side of their defense that nees to improve most importantly, with Ty Emberson and Troy Stecher simply not good enough pieces for a contending team.
Now, shockingly, two Sportsnet analysts have suggested the unthinkable, revealing that they believe the Edmonton Oilers could bring back a very familiar piece.
«For them to get to where they want to be, they're going to have to sort out the back end. And that's going to involve additions, or addition, for sure. We were talking yesterday, I 100% see the return of Ceci.
Despite trading Cody Ceci and a third-round draft pick in the summer for Emberson, the team have a desperate need on the right side, and a familiar face that knows the team and the role he's expected to play could be the move.
After many Oilers fans called Ceci out for his play a year ago, it's shocking that anyone would ever want him back, but after letting Philip Broberg leave as an RFA on top of that, they clearly misplayed things on the blue line this summer.
From the moment the Oilers season began, there was a clear need on the right side of their blue line, so while the likes of Cam Fowler and Rasmus Andersson would be dream targets, Ceci is a much cheaper option.
There's still plenty of time for the Oilers to sort things out internally, but if that doesn't happen, Ceci is a solid move, and if they can get him for cheap, he may be the simple answer they need.
