A reporter covering the New Jersey Devils has highlighted two players the team could benefit from getting in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The doors have been opened on the Pittsburgh Penguins roster, and there seems to be plenty of interest around the NHL from teams looking to make a playoff run this season. One New Jersey Devils reporter has outlined two players he believes the team should target in talks with Pens GM Kyle Dubas.
Nichols believes the Devils can get their fourth line back on track with the addition of Drew O'Connor from the Pittsburgh Penguins. O'Connor is a New Jersey native who likes to throw his weight around.
"'He's a big body who skates well,' wrote Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now, highlighting O'Connor's physical tools and versatility. His low cap hit and ability to play both wing and center make him an attractive, no-risk addition to the Devils' depth chart."
His second choice is Anthony Beauvillier, who would be familiar to New Jersey Devils fans as a longtime member of the New York Islanders. Nichols cautions Beauvillier isn't the player he once was, but can still add depth in New Jersey.
"Beauvillier is a plus skater who can win his puck battles and move pucks from one end of the ice to the other. And honestly, that's all the Devils really need. At the low cost of $1.25 million cap hit on an expiring deal, he'd certainly be an asset as a cheap rental on the fourth line who can move up if necessary."
