According to a report, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson has formally requested a trade from the team.
Chris Johnston of 'The Athletic' and TSN reports that Robertson, a Restricted Free Agent, has informed the Toronto Maple Leafs of his desire to be traded from the team.
Nick Robertson, a 22-year-old once highly touted in Toronto's development system, has faced challenges securing consistent ice time with the Maple Leafs. Unlike his brother Jason, a star with the Dallas Stars, Nick has struggled to carve out a regular role under Sheldon Keefe and seems prepared for potential changes under Craig Berube.
Adding to Robertson's predicament are emerging forwards and top prospects within the Leafs' ranks, including Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten, and Nikita Grebenkin. These players are poised to climb the team's depth chart, potentially surpassing Robertson as early as next season. With Toronto's roster becoming increasingly crowded, Robertson is keen on seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Robertson's most productive NHL season to date saw him tally 14 goals, 13 assists, and 27 points in 56 games. This marked a significant improvement from his earlier NHL career, where he managed just 7 points across 31 games spread over three seasons.
Toronto drafted Robertson in the second round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, selecting him 53rd overall.
