Nazem Kadri teases potential comeback to the Toronto Maple Leafs on social media
As summer trades kick off, the Calgary Flames have formally listed former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri for trade.
Nazem Kadri entered the NHL as a promising force to be reckoned with. Over 15 years ago, in the 2009 NHL Draft, he was selected 7th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"15 years ago today, the Leafs drafted Nazem Kadri seventh overall #Leafs365 #LeafsForever"
After spending a decade with the team and playing only one full season, Toronto decided Kadri held more trade value. The Toronto Maple Leafs then traded him to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Tyson Barrie.
"#TradeCentre ALERT: @MapleLeafs and @Avalanche complete a deal that sends D Tyson Barrie to Toronto and F Nazem Kadri to Colorado..."
However, following a Stanley Cup victory with the Avs, he had to relocate to a new team. Kadri joined the Calgary Flames just three years after rejecting a trade that was proposed in 2019.
"Nazem Kadri in his @PlayersTribune article confirms that he did indeed Veto a trade to Calgary in 2019. Said it didn't have anything to do with the Flames or the city but the fact that he wanted to stay in Toronto. #Flames"
David Pagotta from the Fourth Period reports that Calgary has officially begun exploring the trade market for this 33-year-old forward.
"Nothing is imminent, and he has a full NMC, but word out there suggests the #Flames are exploring trade market on Nazem Kadri."
Nazem Kadri hints at a return to the Maple Leafs
While no official trade announcement has been made regarding Nazem Kadri, the forward has hinted at his potential next NHL destination. According to his Instagram bio, the 33-year-old forward may be poised for a return to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"Nazem Kadri's Instagram Bio is all you need to know. #LeafsForever
Calgary ✈️ Toronto"
Despite holding a full no-move clause, negotiating a deal that suits the veteran forward could prove challenging. However, his impressive stats of 29 goals and 46 assists in the 2023-24 regular season highlight his potential value to Calgary, and he remains a viable option for his original NHL team in Toronto.
