Throughout the month of December, the Vancouver Canucks have been surrounded by drama between Elias Pettersson and fellow star J.T. Miller.
The pair of Canucks stars reportedly do not like each other and have not gotten along for several seasons.
This tension between the two players has led to trade rumors and reports involving both Pettersson and Miller over the last year or so.
Today a new report from Marco Normandin has revealed that at one point last season the Carolina Hurricanes made a blockbuster offer to the Canucks to try and bring Pettersson to the Canes.
The report from Marco Normandin reveals that the Carolina Hurricanes were willing to trade Martin Necas, Brett Pesce, and a handful of draft picks to try and land Elias Pettersson.
Pettersson and Necas are similar players in both age and production to this point in their careers.
Both were drafted in the 2017 NHL Draft with incredible peak seasons but have struggled to find a consistent high level of play.
Add in Brett Pesce who is considered one of the best two-way defensemen in the NHL and it is shocking that the Canucks did not seriously consider getting this deal done.
Now today the Canucks are still having chemistry issues between Pettersson and Miller while Necas is on pace for a 100-point season.
While the Canucks reportedly remain committed to keeping both Pettersson and Miller in the fold one has to wonder if they regret not moving on and bringing in Necas instead.
