Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald is open to trading the 10th overall pick, potentially allowing the Leafs to acquire young talent.
Fitzgerald has also indicated to teams that he is willing to trade the 10th overall pick and is looking to possibly trade down to improve their goaltending situation.
The #NJDevils open to trading No. 10 pick in 2024 NHL Draft. Tom Fitzgerald: "I haven't gotten anything yet but the more I talk to teams, I say 'Listen, I'm open to moving No. 10, but it's going to have to be something (significant).'"
Regarding goalie trades there is no activity at the moment. While Nashville's Jusse Saros could be a target, it remains uncertain if offering the 10th overall pick would be sufficient for a deal. Some fans suggest that trading for a quality NHL skater might be a option.
There are very few goalies worth trading the 10th overall pick for and the ones that are worth it aren't available. That's the type of asset you use to bring in a good D or F on a good contract.
Seems like a trade with the Maple Leafs could be more probable. The team currently lacks a goalie except for Joseph Woll, who is expected to step into the starting role in the coming seasons. However, there's speculation that they might consider trading a skater. Mitch Marner has been at the center of trade talks all summer. Recent reports suggest both sides are stalling on any decisions.
The Mitch Marner camp reportedly prefers to play out the 2024-25 season and see how things shakeout
If Marner decides to wait, it might prompt the Leafs to explore trade options. Perhaps the Devils would be interested in Morgan Rielly? However they already have a defense lineup with capabilities. Maybe someone, like Matthew Knies would catch their eye. While Leafs fans may not want to see him leave it could take an asset of that caliber to secure the pick.
