The Wild made that move less than a day after a tough 7-1 defeat to the same Oilers.
Minnesota is looking to be among the top contenders for the Stanley Cup this year, and Dermott will likely play an important role for the team.
The team will be back on the ice tomorrow afternoon to face the Philadelphia Flyers at home.
Islanders Place Two Players on Waivers: Engvall and Wahlstrom are Available
This isn't the first time Engvall finds himself on NHL waivers this season. The 28-year-old veteran cleared waivers just before the beginning of the season, in early October:
He hasn't been able to find his rhythm and it looks like another AHL stint is coming for him.
As for Wahlstrom, it's more surprising. The 11th overall pick in 2018 is only 24 years old and has a lot of potential. He struggled this season, scoring only four points, including two goals, in 27 games.
An update on Engvall and Wahlstrom will be released tomorrow afternoon.
It'll be interesting to see if any of them generate interest from NHL teams. Engvall is currently in the second year of his seven-season, $3 million AAV contract with the Isles, which could dissuade teams from claiming him.
As for Wahlstrom, he is currently signed to a one-year, $1 million deal, which some teams could find reasonable.
Stay tuned for further details.
