Hockey headlines have been dominated by the 2018 World Juniors scandal for a while now, and one of the players involved appears to have reached the lowest point.

It looks like the NHL player and former London Knights star has given up on his hockey career after becoming involved in a sexual assault case.

The five athletes implicated in the 2018 World Juniors scandal are still under investigation, and they appear to be going in different directions as a result of the accusations. Carter Hart and Cal Foote are preparing for a potential comeback to hockey, while Dillon Dube' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Dillon Dube and Michael McLeod are on their way to Europe to play in the KHL.

Since the accusations were made against them, Alex Formenton, the last player, has allegedly adopted a completely different strategy for his future, going so far as to accept a blue-collar job-a far cry from his once bright future as a professional hockey player.

Formenton lives in Barrie, Ont., and has "moved on from a hockey career," the court documents state, but is working full time in construction and getting "ongoing training in the operation of heavy equipment as well as the administration aspects of his new trade."

Many have criticized the system for allowing the players to continue with their hockey careers given the seriousness of the situation, but Formenton appears to have accepted his fate and is seeking to find a real blue collar job elsewhere.

Perhaps this move away from hockey wasn't entirely Formenton's decision, as he was playing in Switzerland prior to the charges becoming official, but if the charges result in a guilty verdict, we might see all four of them removed from hockey.

For the time being, however, the judge has granted them all the right to forego their pretrial arguments due to "compelling economic reasons," so we will have to wait for more information regarding their circumstances before their trial in 2025.
