At his Quebec Remparts jersey retirement ceremony, Jonathan Marchessault, the new forward for the Nashville Predators, revealed a devastating family announcement.

Jonathan Marchessault's #18 was retired by the Quebec Remparts yesterday before a home game against the Victoriaville Tigres, adding a ninth jersey to the rafters.
Marchessault played for the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL, where he had an incredible junior career. Between 2007 and 2011, the 5'9" forward played in 254 games and scored 239 points.
After going undrafted, he played for the Springfield Falcons, the Connecticut Whale, and the Syracuse Crunch before joining the NHL full-time in 2015-16.
"I'm so greatful for the organization of the Remparts to recognize me for what I've done in my hockey career," Marchessault said.
Since entering the National Hockey League, he has accumulated 487 points (230 goals and 257 assists) across 638 games with teams including the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and the Vegas Golden Knights. It was with Vegas that he achieved stardom, becoming a 40+ goal scorer and earning the 2023 playoff MVP as he led the Golden Knights to their Stanley Cup victory.
Marchessault disclosed in an interview just before the ceremony that his mother, Lesly Marchessault, had died a day earlier.
Translated from french:
"It's difficult. I learned that I lost my mother yesterday morning. It's been 24 hours, so it's very difficult not only for me but for my entire family.

Anyone who knew my mother knows that a moment like the one today would have been one of the best moments of her entire life.

That's what is so sad. She would have really loved to see it, to see her name raised to the top of the Videotron Centre . She was so good to me, she was incredible. It's horrible. It's part of life. She would have wanted us to be here as a family, so that's why we went through with it."
"Lesly, you left us this week. Mom, you were my first fan. I could always count on your support.

She attended all my games with the Remparts. I know you're with us tonight to celebrate this milestone. Thank you, I love you."

One of the most difficult things that can happen in life is losing a parent, so we have nothing but admiration for Marchessault and his family for going through the ceremony.
We are thinking of him and his family.
