The Toronto Maple Leafs have just announced their roster for their opening preseason game against the Ottawa Senators, which is scheduled for tonight.
Looking at the Toronto Maple Leafs roster against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night, you would think the preseason had just begun. The Leafs are eager to start the season and will field a star-studded lineup against the Sens in their first preseason encounter.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch Max Pacioretty make his Leafs debut tonight in addition to seeing Auston Matthews suit up for the first time as team captain at Scotiabank Arena.
Additionally, it will be Craig Berube's first game in charge of the Maple Leafs. After Toronto fired Sheldon Keefe after the team lost to the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs, Berube was hired in May.
Pacioretty stated that John Tavares will be his center and that he has been working out with Nikita Grebenkin throughout camp. The Leafs did not run any lines up.
"He knows I have a little bit of a Russian background with my wife's family so I've been trying to talk to him a bit," Pacioretty said of Grebenkin. "But you know (he) surprised me a lot and in the scrimmage had two really good looks. Smart player offensively and hopefully we can score tonight."
The Senators' pre-season lineup, on the other hand, is more conventional.
John Tavares, who is expected to make his ice debut as an assistant captain, will join William Nylander and other players. As he looks to earn a spot on the roster, fans will also have the opportunity to watch Easton Cowan excel tonight.
Fans will have the opportunity to witness a good pre-season opener between the Leafs and the Senators. Get ready for puck drop at 7 pm Eastern.
