Earlier today the Los Angeles Kings made the surprising announcement that they had placed forward Arthur Kaliyev on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the AHL.
Kaliyev being placed on waivers caught the attention of almost every fan base across the NHL due to the fact that he is still a young promising player.
Kaliyev is just 23 years old and was a 2nd-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and is known for being one of the better snipers in the NHL when healthy.
Despite his clear talent for shooting Kaliyev has struggled to round out his game to be a more complete player and that has led to a lack of ice time in Los Angeles.
Now after being placed on waivers, every NHL team will have an opportunity to claim him and according to some a former connection with Ottawa Senators GM Steve Staios could lead Kaliyev to Canada's capital city.
According to a report from the Ottawa Sun the Senators have been interested in acquiring Kaliyev from the Kings for some time.
Kaliyev has a prior relationship with Senators GM Steve Staios during their time together in the OHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The Senators were not willing to give up what the Kings were asking for in a trade but now that Kaliyev is available for free we could see him reunite with Staios.
Regardless of whether it is Ottawa or another NHL team early rumblings seem to indicate Kaliyev is well respected around the NHL and will find a new home by tomorrow when his waiver process is finished.
As news comes in regarding Kaliyev's future continue to check back as we will have all of the latest details.
