Due to persistent back issues, Washington Capitals winger T.J. Oshie is anticipated to enter long-term injured reserve during the current campaign.

Following his medical exam, the team declared on Wednesday that Oshie will be listed as injured when training camp begins. Though it may not happen, he and the Capitals left the door open in case they returned.
«I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury,» Oshie said in a statement. «I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. In the meantime, I will continue to help and support my teammates and the organization in any way I can.»

TJ Oshie hasn't played more than 60 games in a season for the Washington Capitals in more than five years, and 2024-2025 won't be the year that changes either because he is reportedly returning to LTIR.
«We will support and assist T.J. as he seeks a lasting solution for his recurring injury," general manager Chris Patrick said. "T.J. is a vital member of our team and continues to be an indispensable member of the organization and leadership group. Our organization fully backs him as he assesses his current health challenges.»

Oshie, who was acquired by the Capitals prior to the 2015-16 season, has played in 567 games and scored 385 points (192 goals, 193 assists), ranking second on the team in goals during that time only to Alex Ovechkin.
On March 16 in Vancouver, Oshie participated in his 1,000th career game, making history as the 12th player to do so while wearing a Capitals sweater.
