Calder Cup champion hospitalized during team celebration
After securing their second consecutive Calder Cup win, a member of the Hershey Bears was taken to the hospital during their championship celebration.
The Washington Capitals have seen remarkable success with their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, which has arguably surpassed their own recent achievements. Following another challenging playoff journey, the Bears defeated the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the finals for the second consecutive year, clinching their 13th Calder Cup title in franchise history.
"Bears go back to back. No surprise there if you've watched them since, say, November. 13 titles for Hershey. Congrats to them and all my pals there.
Now back to summer."
However, the team's celebration took an unexpected turn. During the victory party, one of the Hershey Bears players had to be hospitalized.
"The player experienced a medical issue during a team celebration, and out of an abundance of caution, the player was transported to Hershey Medical Center."
While this could have been a frightening situation for everyone involved, fortune favored them. The player was discharged the next day without needing further medical intervention. The Hershey Bears player was later able to rejoin the team's ongoing celebration.
"The player was evaluated and then released early [Wednesday] morning after officials determined no additional medical assistance was needed."
After resolving the situation, the Hershey Bears resumed their celebration with all players present. Hopefully, this incident was an isolated occurrence, and all players will prioritize safe celebrations to maintain their pursuit of a third consecutive Calder Cup victory.
