The Winnipeg Jets were big buyers a year ago, but according to a top insider, they may attempt a very different strategy when the 2025 trade deadline rolls around.

This season has been a great one for the Winnipeg Jets thus far, as they have arguably been the best team in the NHL, with the team holding a four point lead in the Central Division over the Minnesota Wild.

However, the trade deadline is approaching in a few months, and while the team are rolling, many believe they will need to make a move or two to put them over the top in the Western Conference.

Last season though, the team picked up Tyler Toffoli and Sean Monahan at the deadline, only to be beaten in five games by the Colorado Avalanche in round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

While the Jets have been linked to Jonathan Toews, they could still be aggressive this season, Frank Seravalli believes that those failures from a year ago could influence them to go in a different direction at this years deadline.

«And I just wonder, I don't, again, don't know exactly what Kevin Cheveldayoff's thinking. But when you, when you do go out last year, and make the additions that you did and then don't find success in the playoffs, do you turn around the next year and say, 'maybe less is more.' Maybe we have a good team, and don't need to do that. I don't know.»

Seravalli notes that the team will still likely be buyers, but after giving away some top picks a year ago, it certainly makes sense if they were to be a little less aggressive in adding to the roster in 2025.

One improvement that they do need to make is another game changer on the blue line, and with plenty available, it's a move that they'll definitely be able to make if GM Kevin Cheveldayoff gets aggressive, but if not, there's a belief in Winnipeg that the team as currently constructed could make some noise.
