With a career of over 1,000 games and three Stanley Cups won in his time in the NHL, former great Jonathan Toews has hung up his skates.
Being named captain of the Chicago Blackhawks marked him in history books as one of the greats, where, during his last game in April 2023 against the Philadelphia Flyers, he received a standing ovation.
At 34 years of age, Jonathan Toews fought through serious health issues but would not retire, only taking time off to recover. He remains hopeful to get back into the league when his condition would allow him to do so.
More than a year later, an NHL comeback could be on the cards. In speaking with 'GQ', Toews gave an update on his crazy journey of healing in India, which he says has rejuvenated his health and readiness for hockey.
With his health improving, Toews has been getting back onto the ice. On 'Sports on Prime Canada', NHL insider Frank Seravalli noted that Toews is now skating at an elite level and has reached out to several teams wanting to upgrade depth up front, which includes the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, and Colorado Avalanche.
In 53 games during his final season with the Blackhawks, Toews scored 15 goals and recorded 31 points during the 2022-23 season.
While his next move in the NHL is up in the air, if his form stays the same as prior, he will have quite the case for himself as a third-line center.
