Markus Loponen, a prospect with the Winnipeg Jets, is asking Karpat to terminate his contract to allow his relocation to North America.

This decision comes shortly after the Victoria Royals selected him in the CHL Import Draft.
Markus Loponen, a Finnish defenseman drafted by the Jets in the 5th round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, has informed Karpat of his intention to join the WHL team. His move comes just days after the Royals picked him up, signaling his eagerness to transition to North American hockey.
Loponen, known for his physical style of play, uses his size effectively to deliver impactful hits while maintaining discipline. His ability to score crucial goals and play responsibly in his own end makes him a promising prospect. However, scouts have noted areas for improvement, particularly his skating speed and acceleration, which they believe need further development.
The move to North America will allow the Jets organization and their fans to monitor Loponen's progress more closely. With Loponen's proximity to Manitoba, there is optimism that he may eventually make his mark with the Jets.
