Young Nashville Predators goaltender Yaroslav Askarov has asked for a trade and announced he won't report to the AHL, fueling speculation about his future.
General Manager Barry Trotz has addressed these developments, making it clear where the team stands.
Yaroslav Askarov, the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, has reportedly requested a trade and stated he will not report to the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL. This decision comes after the Predators re-signed Juuse Saros to an eight-year deal, which significantly reduces Askarov's chances of securing regular NHL ice time. For more details, visit Kevin Weekes' tweet.
In response to Askarov's demands, Nashville Predators General Manager Barry Trotz has been firm. Trotz told reporter John Glennon that he expects Askarov to attend training camp in September and compete for a spot in the NHL for the upcoming 2024-25 season. You can read Glennon's update on the situation here.
Askarov has played just three NHL games to date, with the majority of his experience coming with the Milwaukee Admirals. With Juuse Saros and Scott Wedgewood currently in Nashville, Askarov's prospects for significant NHL play appear limited.
The Tennessean has reached out to Askarov's agent, Dan Milstein, for comment on the situation, but Milstein declined to provide any details. The full report is available here.
Trotz is reportedly evaluating trade offers but may need to act quickly to address the situation effectively. For the latest trade alerts, check out NHL Trade Alert's tweet.
