The Washington Capitals are preparing to be without their leading scorer Alex Ovechkin for the foreseeable future, and have made some roster moves.

The Washington Capitals announced that they have recalled forward Ivan Miroshnichenko from their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears.
In conjunction with the move, the team placed captain Alex Ovechkin on Injured Reserve per senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick.
Miroshnichenko, 20, has been one of the top performers for Hershey this season, collecting 14 points by way of seven goals and seven assists in just 16 games.
The 6'1", 200-pound winger currently sits second on the team in both goals and total points.
Miroshnichenko is a first-round draft choice, picked 20th overall, from the 2022 Draft.
He brings prior NHL experience, having played 21 games with the Capitals last season, where he contributed six points on two goals and four assists.
He made his NHL debut on December 20 against the Islanders and later became the first player from his draft class to feature in a playoff game, when he took part in Washington's postseason match-up on April 26.
During his rookie AHL campaign, he led all Hershey rookies in several categories, including points with 25, assists with 16, and a plus-minus of +15.
He also was a key factor in the Calder Cup championship Bears team, scoring 12 points in 20 playoff games.
Before joining the Capitals organization, Miroshnichenko demonstrated his talent across several leagues.
During the 2022-23 season, he split his time between the KHL, the Supreme Hockey League, and the Russian Junior League, racking up outstanding stats: 14 points in just 12 junior games.
On the international stage, Miroshnichenko served as a team captain for Russia en route to a gold medal at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, posting nine points in five games.
With his skillset, years of experience, and leadership, Miroshnichenko is in a position to make an impact with the Capitals while they wait for Ovechkin's return.
