The Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving knows that he must do something about his bottom-six. Despite being 2nd in the Atlantic Division, the Leafs' lower lines haven't been good enough this season.
Of course, the injuries to Auston Matthews, Max Pacioretty, Calle Jarnkrok, and David Kampf, as well as Ryan Reaves' suspension are hurting the team's depth.
There's a general belief that Brad Treliving could be looking at reinforcements on the trade market, even though he opted to call up Fraser Minten from the AHL to fill in for Kampf instead of looking at his trade options.
However, this doesn't mean that the Leafs won't try to go after players they find interesting on the trade market before the deadline.
According to Luke Fox, a new option just came up for Treliving: Brock Nelson.
Nelson, 33, has always provided great services for the New York Islanders. With the injuries to Anthony Duclair and Mathew Barzal, he's even been moved up to the second line by head coach Patrick Roy.
In 18 games this season, the veteran scored 10 points, including seven goals, a kind of production that Leafs fans would love to see on the team's third line.
As for the Islanders, they could be hesitant to part ways with Nelson, especially considering their lack of offensive depth. To send him away, the Islanders would need to get an offer they can't refuse.
With that in mind, it would be surprising to see Treliving going for Nelson, even if he'd surely love to have him on his team.
