The Vancouver Canucks have been dealing with a lot as of late, and while the drama still dominates the headlines, they're dealing with plenty of injuries at the exact same time.
Captain Quinn Hughes and star forward Elias Pettersson have both been out of action for a few weeks now, and on Friday the team made an official announcement on the latter, revealing that EP40 will be headed to Injured Reserve.
After a slow start, Pettersson regained his form in the absence of J.T. Miller, and in 34 games thus far he's posted an impressive 10 goals and 28 points, once again showing why he's a key part of this Canucks lineup.
However, he's been missing since the team's final game before Christmas, with the team posting a 1-1-1 record in his absence, finding their way back into a Wild Card spot with their latest win over the Seattle Kraken.
In his place, the team will recall goaltender Arturs Silovs on an emergency basis, with Thatcher Demko dealing with some health issues of his own in the last few days, as a potential announcement could be made on his condition in the coming days.
All of the talk around Pettersson and Vancouver as of late has surrounded a potential trade, with Insider Elliotte Friedman seemingly hinting that the team are listening intently to trade offers on the 26-year old.
For now however, he's a member of the Vancouver Canucks, and until a trade happens, they'll be hoping to get him back on the ice, because when he and Hughes are healthy, they are a genuine Stanley Cup threat in the Western Conference.
