On Tuesday morning, Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin disclosed 13 roster changes. Nine players were assigned to the Abbotsford Canucks directly and four players were placed on waivers as part of the roster changes.
Jiri Patera, Christian Wolanin, Nate Smith, and Phil Di Guiseppe are the four players who are currently on waivers. With their combined NHL experience, all four are anticipated to contribute to the AHL this year. Di Guiseppe is the only one that caught us off guard because he is the most likely of the four to be called up for the first NHL call-up.
Linus Karlsson, Jonathan Lekkerimäki, Ty Mueller, Max Sasson, Christian Felton, Cole McWard, Kirill Kudryavtsev, defenseman Elias Pettersson, and Nikita Tolopilo are the nine players who were sent straight to the AHL. Lekkerimäki, Sasson, and Pettersson are among the standouts from Training Camp and the preseason that are included in this group. The fact that McWard is among the group indicates that he is almost ready to return to the team after missing the previous month due to an injury.
Aatu Räty, 21, will stay with the team for the foreseeable future. Räty is coming into his own during the preseason, and Tocchet is liking what he's seen in the rookie.
The Vancouver Canucks will play a rematch with the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night in their final exhibition game, seemingly with their opening night roster. The current projected roster for the Canucks could be as follows:
Tomorrow marks the start of Abbotsford's 2024 Training Camp, and on Saturday there will be a scrimmage.
As the regular season draws near, we'll have to see how Tocchet's roster comes together, but Räty has undoubtedly established himself in recent weeks.
