The Canadiens are not taking any chances after Patrik Laine suffered a horrific injury in their previous game, and they have called up two extremely tough players for tonight's contest.

Following recent roster cuts, the Montreal Canadiens made a surprising 180-degree turn and called up forwards Lucas Condotta and Luke Tuch. It was revealed that these two would play preseason games against the Ottawa Senators on the same day, which sparked rumors about the team's intentions. Given that both players are known to be physically strong players, it's clear that the Canadiens may be changing their strategy.
It's possible that head coach Martin St-Louis wants to add more size to the lineup given the recall of Condotta and Tuch. Given the Senators' reputation for tough, physical hockey and the fact that the Toronto Maple Leafs recently humiliated the Canadiens in a physical altercation, this may be the team's direct response to avoid being picked on on the ice.
Although Condotta and Tuch will probably play tonight, their futures with the team are less certain. Preseason games provide an opportunity to showcase one's skills, but following the game, both players will likely return to the AHL as St-Louis and his staff depart for a closed training camp retreat in Tremblant. This is an audition to demonstrate their value for potential future team opportunities rather than a permanent call-up.
It is significant to remember that every time young players take the ice, they are trying out for a future role-if not one right away, then one later on. In addition to their physical prowess, Condotta and Tuch will need to demonstrate their all-around play.
It remains to be seen if it pays off in the short term, but it is evident that the Canadiens are dedicated to building a team that can withstand the rigors of the regular season.
