The National Hockey League has issued a statement via their Public Relations account on X, addressing Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes.
On Friday afternoon, the National Hockey League took to their Public Relations account to spotlight the top point leaders among defensemen each season, beginning with the 2014-15 campaign.
Last season, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes topped all NHL defensemen in points, amassing 92 (17 goals, 75 assists) in 82 games. Hughes' total ranks as the third-highest in the past decade, trailing only Erik Karlsson (101 points in 2022-23) and Roman Josi (96 points in 2021-22).
"If a defenseman has a 100-point season in 2024-25, who would be most likely to achieve it?
Blueliners have combined for four 90-point seasons across the last three campaigns: Quinn Hughes & Cale Makar (2023-24), Erik Karlsson (2022-23) & Roman Josi (2021-22). #NHLStats" The NHL said.
Last season, Hughes elevated his game significantly, boosting his point production by 17.3% from the 76 points he recorded in the 2022-23 season to 92. This impressive feat allowed Hughes to set a new Canucks franchise record for most points in a single season, surpassing his own record from the previous year.
With the best seasons of his career potentially still ahead, Hughes is on track to reach the 100-point mark, a milestone achieved by only six defensemen in NHL history, if he continues his upward trajectory.
