Elias Pettersson's name has been in trade speculation for weeks now, and for the first time, he's officially addressed the speculation around his name.
Although the Vancouver Canucks are looking to chase a Stanley Cup in 2024/25, the story of their season has thus far revolved around the drama with Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, which simply won't go away.
While the team originally wanted to keep both players, they are now leaning towards a major shakeup, with General Manager Patrik Allvin recently hinting that EP40 could be on the move in the near future.
Now, after weeks of speculation in the media, the 26-year old star has addressed the situation, revealing that while he's heard the rumours, if he plays better, he believes he won't be moved after all.
«I'm aware of it, I've heard it. But then it's like, can I control it? No. I'm sure it will go away if I play better and if we win.»
Most importantly however, he stated that he wants to stay and wants to win in Vancouver, which is exactly what the front office and the Canucks fans wanted to hear.
«Yeah, of course. That's why I signed here. Of course.»
During all of this speculation, Pettersson has been sidelined with an injury, but now that he makes his return to the lineup, he has the opportunity to find career best form and prove that he's a key part of the Canucks present and future.
Ultimately, it appears to be a matter of when, not if the Canucks trade either Pettersson or Miller, and right now it's likely who gets them the best return that makes the most sense, so expect to hear these rumours rage on until someone is moved in Vancouver.
