Following yesterday's placement of Arthur Kaliyev on waivers by the Los Angeles Kings, the New York Rangers proceeded to claim the young forward today.

This has been nothing short of a disappointing season for the New York Rangers. A team that had hopes for the Stanley Cup coming into this year has struggled all the way down to be tied for last place in the Metropolitan Division with only 37 points.

The Rangers have been desperate for a spark in their season and have explored bold moves to ignite it.

Speculation has surrounded potential trades, which later came to fruition including their captain, Jacob Trouba, and former second-overall pick Kaapo Kakko, as they sought answers on how to right the ship.

In keeping up with how busy the franchise has been as of late, the New York Rangers have claimed forward Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

The 22-year-old winger, on a one-year deal worth $825,000, will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Arthur Kaliyev has not appeared this season with a fractured clavicle from training camp.

Arthur Kaliyev, once one of the better prospects, who netted 44 goals in 57 OHL games, hasn't quite made the cut to a full-time NHLer. He could be a PP support piece and could grow into a 20 or 30-goal player playing off the back of Artemi Panarin.

The Russian winger played 51 games with the Kings last year, scored seven goals and 15 points, did not appear in any playoff games, and was in the rumor mill throughout the 2023-24 campaign after being a healthy scratch multiple times.

A 2019 33rd overall draft pick of the Kings, Kaliyev has 35 goals and 71 points in 188 career NHL games. He also represented the United States at the World Juniors twice, including an appearance in the 2021 gold medal game.
