Canucks targeting five free agents, among them a former first-round pick
With most of Vancouver's work in the free agent market complete, Patrik Allvin might now focus on adding depth to his forward group and blue line.
Several intriguing free agents remain available, and Adam Kierszenblat recently highlighted five potential signings for the Canucks in an article for The Hockey News, suggesting they could enhance their depth in the coming weeks or months.
For the forward position, Kierszenblat named three candidates: former sixth overall pick Filip Zadina, 2019 Stanley Cup champion Sammy Blais, and veteran James van Riemsdyk.
Zadina, 24, spent the 2023-24 season with the San Jose Sharks after terminating his contract with Detroit last summer. In 72 games, he recorded 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists), 18 penalty minutes, and a minus-44 rating.

Blais, 28, missed time due to an upper-body injury in February and only appeared in 53 games for the Blues this past season, experiencing a notable decline in production. The Montmagny, Quebec native recorded seven points (one goal, six assists), 31 penalty minutes, and a minus-11 rating.
Van Riemsdyk, a veteran of over 1,000 NHL games, had a solid season with the Boston Bruins, playing a depth role and tallying 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in 71 games. He also contributed five points in 11 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Given the inevitable tests to depth over an 82-game season, it might be wise for Allvin to explore additional options. Kierszenblat suggested 24-year-old Calen Addison and former Stanley Cup champion Kevin Shattenkirk as potential candidates.
