Today, reports indicate that the Toronto Maple Leafs have missed out on signing depth forward Kieffer Bellows in free agency, as he has joined the Nashville Predators.

Building organizational depth with NHL-caliber players is crucial for teams managing salary cap challenges. Today, the Toronto Maple Leafs parted ways with one of their key depth players, Kieffer Bellows, who impressed in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies last season.
The #Preds have signed forward Kieffer Bellows to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level.
The #Preds signed another depth piece today in forward Kieffer Bellows, who was a first-round pick in 2016. It's a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 at the NHL level.

He racked up AHL career highs in goals (27), assists (22) and points (49) in 2023-24.
Kieffer Bellows arrived in Toronto seeking to revive his career after being a first-round NHL Draft pick and facing challenges in establishing himself as a top prospect. He excelled with the Toronto Marlies, tallying 49 points in 52 games. Now, he moves to Nashville aiming to earn a spot in the NHL as a depth scorer.
The Maple Leafs must now find a way to fill his shoes in AHL production and consider him as a potential NHL call-up, especially if they plan to trade Nick Robertson this summer.
In the weeks ahead, Maple Leafs' GM Brad Treliving and his front office are expected to address this gap in the organization before the start of training camp.
