The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Stanley Cup champion Steven Lorentz to a professional tryout (PTO) deal as the team gears up for the 2024-25 NHL season.
Top insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news today on X;
Lorentz, 28, who won the Stanley Cup last season with the Florida Panthers, brings valuable playoff experience to the Maple Leafs.
Throughout his career, Lorentz has played 230 NHL games, tallying 43 points, including 21 goals, in regular-season play. He also contributed six points in 32 playoff games.
Despite his experience, Lorentz struggled for ice time last season, often finding himself a healthy scratch and limited to just 38 games with the Panthers.
As an Ontario native, Lorentz will now look to make an impression at the Maple Leafs' training camp. With Toronto's lineup already deep, particularly in the bottom-six, Lorentz might find his best opportunity on David Kampf's wing on the fourth line, potentially taking over Connor Dewar's spot.
The Maple Leafs are counting on Lorentz's championship pedigree to enhance their roster as they aim for a strong season.
