The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially named Joe Brand as the new radio play-by-play voice for the Penguins Radio Network, a role that includes coverage of all regular-season and playoff games.

Brand will be joined by the experienced color analyst and two-time Stanley Cup Champion Phil Bourque, with Paul Steigerwald continuing his role as pre- and post-game host.

Joe Brand steps into a storied role with the Penguins

«We are excited to welcome Joe Brand to the Penguins family and introduce him to the best fans in hockey,» said Acklin. «The Penguins have been fortunate to have some of the best voices to ever call the game sit in that chair, and we look forward to Joe making his own mark here in Pittsburgh.»
Brand, only 33 years old, brings a wealth of experience from his time with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he served as the studio host and fill-in play-by-play broadcaster on WGN Radio 720 AM over the last three seasons. His duties in Chicago included hosting pre-game, intermission, and post-game shows for all regular-season games, as well as hosting the weekly radio show Blackhawks Live'.
In addition to his hosting roles, Brand has also proven himself as a capable play-by-play broadcaster. He stepped into the booth for Blackhawks preseason and select regular-season games, particularly when John Wiedeman was unavailable. Brand worked alongside former NHL players Troy Murray and Hockey Hall-of-Famer Chris Chelios, showcasing his ability to adapt and deliver high-quality game commentary.
Beyond hockey, Brand's broadcasting skills extend across multiple sports, including baseball, football, and basketball. His diverse experience includes calling select regular-season White Sox games on ESPN 1000 WMVP and hosting their pre- and post-game shows. He also worked with the Kane County Cougars as their radio and television broadcaster, adding to his extensive portfolio.

A new chapter begins for the Penguins Radio Network

Brand's appointment marks a significant moment for the Penguins Radio Network, which has a history of iconic voices. With his strong background in sports broadcasting and his connection to the Chicago sports scene, Brand is poised to bring a fresh perspective and energy to Pittsburgh's broadcasts.
The Penguins organization and their fan base eagerly anticipate the impact Brand will have as he continues the legacy of excellence in the broadcast booth.
His official start with the team signifies the beginning of an exciting new era for Penguins radio coverage, ensuring that fans will enjoy top-tier commentary throughout the season.
