Clifford is poised to rejoin the Marlies after having been with the team for the past three seasons.
This marks the second time Clifford has returned to the Maple Leafs organization.
He was involved in the notable trade that brought Jack Campbell to the Maple Leafs in 2020. Afterward, Clifford signed with the St. Louis Blues but was traded back to Toronto in November 2021.
At 33 years old, Clifford has proven to be a significant asset for the young Marlies squad. He plays a crucial role in team leadership and is known for his commitment to protecting his teammates.
Details of the contract are not yet available, but it is likely a one-year deal at a modest rate, allowing Clifford to finish his hockey career near his hometown of Ayr, Ontario.
During his last season with the Marlies, Clifford appeared in 56 games, tallying 10 goals, 18 assists, and 140 penalty minutes. He did not play for the Maple Leafs; his most recent NHL action was in the 202223 season, where he featured in two games.
