Maple Leafs are uncertain about Mitch Marner's return as he nears NHL free agency, but new coach Craig Berube is keen on resolving issues with Marner and the team.

Craig Berube, who took over as the Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs following Sheldon Keefe's departure, was recently seen having coffee with the star player amidst trade rumors surrounding him due to his expiring contract next season.
The final decision on whether the Leafs will keep or trade Marner will ultimately rest with General Manager Brad Treliving. However there is potential for Berube to have some influence in this decision and potentially benefit Toronto if he believes he can bring out the best in the winger.
While an unverified source mentioned that Berube would like to coach Marner aligning with reports of his outlook on the Leafs locker room it remains uncertain.
Ran into Paul at TPC Toronto, and he reiterated the desire for Berube to coach Mitch. Seems internally the Leafs want to see what a new coach can do.
Marner, who is 27 years old scored 29 goals, made 56 assists and earned a total of 85 points in the 69 games he played for Toronto this season. He has openly stated his wish to remain with the Toronto team for the season. His no move clause requires his approval if any trade offers come his way to move to a team.
