Multiple Toronto Maple Leafs players have been the subject of trade rumors this summer, but the latest speculation could be the most significant of all.

According to @CapWages on X, a major trade is potentially on the horizon, involving Mitch Marner of the Leafs being traded to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Charlie McAvoy. This proposed one-for-one deal could significantly benefit both teams more than anticipated.
To celebrate our 8000th (‼️) follower, we decided to go full B̶e̶a̶s̶t̶M̶o̶d̶e̶ GM Mode and show the @MapleLeafs how to win the 🏆 this year.

Someone send the plan to Brad🌲(he's not one of the 8000). Or just check out our improved GM Mode and send your own team.
The Leafs boast impressive offensive talent, but they are somewhat lacking on defense. While Toronto could replace Marner with other skilled forwards, adding McAvoy to their blue line would make a significant difference. However, the ongoing rivalry and animosity between the two teams might be a major obstacle to such a trade.
The Bruins have seen player departures this offseason, and experts are forecasting a potential decline in their overall points. Acquiring Marner could help counteract this predicted drop. Yet, the Bruins value McAvoy's stability on defense and would be reluctant to part with him, as his absence would weaken their blue line significantly.

While it's possible that Marner could be traded if the Leafs can't finalize a contract extension, it seems unlikely that the return would be Charlie McAvoy.
