The ongoing saga between Nick Robertson and the Toronto Maple Leafs seems to be nearing its conclusion, with both sides expected to finalize a deal soon.

After months of speculation and uncertainty, it appears that Nick Robertson will be staying with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the upcoming season. According to top insider Darren Dreger, the 22-year-old restricted free agent is expected to sign a deal soon.
In a recent appearance on TSN 1050's First Up, Darren Dreger mentioned that the forward could sign in time for Toronto's training camp. Robertson, who was drafted 53rd overall in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft, has had an injury-plagued start to his career, appearing in just 87 NHL games to date. Despite showing flashes of promise, Robertson has struggled to secure a regular roster spot with the Leafs.
Last season, Robertson played in 56 games for Toronto, recording 14 goals and 13 assists, with a total of 27 points. Averaging just over 11 minutes of ice time per game, he has primarily been utilized in a bottom-six role, something he has reportedly been dissatisfied with. Despite his frustrations, Darren Dreger pointed out that the Leafs' left-wing depth is relatively thin. Players like Matthew Knies, Bobby McMann, Connor Dewar, and Pontus Holmberg are all competing for a spot, which could leave an opening for Robertson to take on a larger role.

Limited league-wide interest

One of the reasons Robertson may be staying with Toronto is a lack of significant interest from other NHL teams. As Dreger noted, the Leafs haven't received much in the way of serious offers for the young forward. While Robertson has shown potential, his injury history and limited NHL experience have made teams hesitant to pursue him aggressively.
Robertson's situation remains fluid, but it looks like he will get another opportunity to prove himself with the Leafs. Toronto's training camp will be crucial in determining whether he can break out and establish himself as a more prominent member of the roster.
