The Calgary Flames are heading into a full-scale rebuild, with cap space and a need for young talent, making Nick Robertson a potential target.
Following the last trade deadline and the current off-season, the Calgary Flames' plans have become clear. With ample cap space and a defined direction, they seem focused on bolstering their young core.
The Athletic's Julian McKenzie has now put together a list of 11 players that Calgary should be targeting, which includes the disgruntled Maple Leafs winger Nick Robertson.
Also included in the list are Trevor Zegras, Kaapo Kakko, Dawson Mercer, and several others, but Robertson stands out as a particularly intriguing option for Calgary. The Flames could potentially take on a bad contract from Toronto in exchange for another asset, making this deal appealing.
Despite Robertson's improvement in Toronto last season, as he finally enjoyed a full season of health, he wasn't able to fully meet expectations. With Calgary possessing veterans that might pique Toronto's interest, the two teams could be viable trade partners.
However, the strained relationship and reluctance to negotiate between Brad Treliving and his former team might hinder a deal. Still, this trade looks beneficial on paper and could potentially come to fruition as the off-season continues.
