Andonovski, 25, has completed his second full season with the Penguins organization, spending all his time with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, except for a brief call-up last October that didn't result in his NHL debut. He achieved career highs in the 2023-24 season with 23 assists and 30 points in 63 games, leading WBS forwards in assists and ranking fifth in team points.
Since his AHL debut on an ATO to finish the 2021-22 season, Andonovski has accumulated 49 points (15 goals, 34 assists) in 130 games. The 6'1″, 194-lb forward was originally signed as an undrafted free agent from Princeton, where he tallied 21 goals, 29 assists, and 50 points in 80 NCAA games.
Despite his progress, Andonovski's chances of making his NHL debut on this new deal are slim. The Pittsburgh system boasts several more experienced or higher-ceiling forward options, such as Jonathan Gruden, Bokondji Imama, Vasiliy Ponomarev, and Samuel Poulin, who are more likely to get a call-up.
As he was this summer, Andonovski will be a restricted free agent (RFA) again in the 2025 offseason. He still won't require waivers to be assigned to WBS in the fall, but it's his last season with this exemption.
The Penguins' commitment to Andonovski reflects their recognition of his contributions and potential within the organization, even if his path to the NHL remains challenging.
