Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi could find themselves affected by Brad Treliving's free agency strategy for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Leafs' management is focused on overhauling their defense through both free agency and trades this summer, despite salary cap constraints. Should they prioritize defensemen over forwards, Bertuzzi and Domi may be directly impacted.
According to Jonas Siegel and James Mirtle of The Athletic, in a recent article, they stated:
"The Leafs aren't against bringing Bertuzzi and Domi back but want to keep the bulk of their cap space available heading into July 1st for defense. Their return to Toronto may hinge on being able to circle back after the initial wave of UFA signings takes place around the league on Monday."
With Treliving recently securing a three-year contract extension for goaltender Joseph Woll, the GM faces tighter salary cap constraints for significant offseason moves.
The destinations for Bertuzzi and Domi in the 2024-25 NHL season should become clear in the coming weeks.
