The Colorado Avalanche have placed 24-year-old defenseman John Ludvig on waivers today.

The NHL waiver wire has been rather active over the past few days and today is no different.

Earlier this afternoon, the Penguins announced that Tristan Jarry was going on waivers, the second time he has been demoted this season.

Now another former Penguin in on waivers as the Colorado Avalanche are set to demote 24-year-old blueliner John Ludvig to the Colorado Eagles of the AHL.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman was the first to report this move.

Shortly after Friedman's post, the Colorado Avalanche confirmed the move with an announcement on their own X account.

Ludvig has played in 8 games for the Avalanche this season, putting up 2 assists in the process.

He has a -4 rating, 6 penalty minutes, and 9 shots on goal in those games while averaging just under 13 minutes of ice time per game.

Last season Ludvig played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but he was claimed off waivers by Colorado this year before getting into a single game with the team.

Overall, he's made 41 regular-season NHL appearances and he has 3 goals, 7 points, and a -16 rating to show for it.

Ludvig was a 3rd round draft pick selected 69th overall by the Florida Panthers in 2019.

At this point in his career, he appears to be an NHL/AHL tweener, and will likely earn a few more call ups this season and going forward to serve as a 7th defenseman who can fill in for injuries.

Other than that though, he likely will never be a difference maker at the NHL level.
