In surprising news, the Pittsburgh Penguins are set to place their top goaltender Tristan Jarry on the NHL waiver wire on Wednesday afternoon.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are managing to stay in the Metropolitan Division's playoff race despite a tough start to the season. With 44 points and an 18-20-8 record, Kyle Dubas' team is sixth in the rankings, tied with the Philadelphia Flyers.

However, that's not because of their goaltenders.

Both Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic have been struggling this season, which could force Kyle Dubas to make major moves soon.

Nedeljkovic has only seven wins this season in 19 games, with a 3.40 GAA and a .886 SV%. For a number two goalie earning $2,500,000 a year, it's not good enough, but it's still better than the performances offered by Tristan Jarry.

Jarry only won eight games this season after 22 starts. He may have slightly better numbers, with a 3.31 GAA and a .886 SV%, but with his $5,375,000 AAV contract, much more is expected from him.

It looks like President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas is getting tired of Jarry's struggles.

In breaking news, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced in a post on X that they will place Jarry on waivers, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

With his heavy contract, Jarry will undoubtedly clear waivers, but we'll have to wait for tomorrow's update before knowing his fate.

Considering that Joel Blomqvist, the 23-year-old goalie playing in the AHL, has the best save percentage among all the organization's goaltenders in the NHL, with .904, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Pens calling him up:

"Joel Blomqvist enjoyed a fabulous stint in the NHL earlier this season, clearly outplaying Jarry and Nedeljkovic before returning to Wilkes-Barre. He's been solid in the AHL, showcasing a .912 save percentage and a 2.93 GAA."

It's never easy for a professional athlete established in the NHL to get sent down to a lower-level league, and we wish him the best going forward.
