Nothing seems to be working anymore in Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby's team is having one of the worst starts in franchise history. Through 21 games, the Penguins have a 7-10-4 record and are sitting at the 8th spot in the Metropolitan Division.
It seems obvious that changes must be made in the organization. President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas should consider making important moves before the deadline on March 7th.
Most Penguins players are expected to be considered in trade scenarios, except Sidney Crosby.
That includes the defenseman Kris Letang.
Letang, who's been in Pittsburgh for his whole career, could change teams this season, according to a new report.
Indeed, The Athletic revealed that Letang could be open to be traded, but his contract could be hard to move:
After this season, the 37-year-old defenseman will have three seasons at $6,100,000 AAV left on his contract.
This means that he'll be a free agent at 41 years old.
This season, in 18 games, Letang scored only six points, showing his age could be catching up with him, even if he's still able to do plays like these:
With his performances this season and his hefty contract, many teams could be dissuaded from acquiring him on the trade market, especially if Dubas asks for a big return.
More and more people believe the team should start rebuilding as soon as possible, and while it may sting, fans could be forced to see their favorite players change teams as early as this season.
