The Pittsburgh Penguins are gearing up for a transformative offseason following their second consecutive miss from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

With significant changes on the horizon, the team is poised to explore multiple big-name trades to reshape their roster for the 2024-25 season. Under the guidance of Kyle Dubas, who is entering his second offseason with the Penguins, several players might find themselves on the trading block.
Reilly Smith's tenure with the Penguins started promisingly as he formed a solid partnership with Evgeni Malkin on the second line. However, his performance declined, resulting in a disappointing season with only 13 goals in 76 games, the lowest since his 2014-15 season with the Boston Bruins. Despite being shopped around during the trade deadline, no deal materialized. This offseason could see renewed efforts to trade Smith.

P.O. Joseph

P.O. Joseph is one of the Penguins' most valuable trade assets. As a young defenseman, Joseph showed potential, particularly when paired with Kris Letang. His performance improved towards the end of the season, catching the attention of several teams. With his contract status as a restricted free agent, Joseph remains an affordable option, making him an attractive trade piece for teams looking to bolster their blue line.
Rickard Rakell, a holdover from the Ron Hextall era, might also be on the move as Dubas seeks to imprint his vision on the team. Rakell struggled throughout the 2023-24 season, failing to score in his first 19 games and dealing with a persistent injury that sidelined him for a month. His inability to participate in the IIHF World Championship highlights his ongoing health issues. Trading Rakell could free up much-needed salary cap space for the Penguins to pursue high-profile acquisitions.
The future of the Penguins' goaltending is uncertain, with Tristan Jarry's role as the starter for the upcoming season not guaranteed despite Dubas expressing confidence in him. With Joel Blomqvist expected to advance but not as a starter, the team needs a reliable goaltender. Given the demand for goaltending across the league, Jarry could be a valuable trade asset if the Penguins decide to make a move.
The Penguins face a pivotal offseason with critical decisions regarding trades and free-agent signings. Kyle Dubas aims to swiftly steer the team back to its winning ways, making this summer a crucial period for the franchise's future.
